Agility Training This class is an introduction to the fun in the world of agility. Running a dog in an agility trial is the ultimate game for you and your dog. In agility, a dog demonstrates its agile nature and versatility by following cues from the handler through a timed obstacle course of jumps, tunnels, weave poles and other objects. It’s an activity that strengthens the bond between dog and handler while providing fun and exercise for both. Dogs must be one year of age and must have completed a class in obedience training. Dogs must be current on their shots and must be under reasonable control of the handler. Teams may be excused if not able to maintain reasonable control. This class will be strictly outdoors and taught on leash for the safety of the dogs. Burn ‘n Earn Challenge The Burn ‘n Earn Challenge begins with a one-hour consultation with certified personal trainer and challenge coordinator, Carrie Slovak, B.S., where you will receive manuals and learn the specifics of this energizing fitness competition. You will strive to acquire as much physical activity as possible throughout the next eight weeks, choosing exercises and leisure activities that you enjoy, and performing them at times and locations that suit you best. (No special equipment or expensive gym memberships are required. Instead, participants are encouraged to perform activities that do not require any equipment or to use equipment that is already in their possession.) Participants will meet for 30 minutes for eight weeks to submit their weekly activity logs and receive updates on the current standings within the competition. (There will be no exercise during any of the weekly meetings.) This challenge awards its points based on Metabolic Equivalents (a measurement of energy expenditure, much like calories/kilocalories, but independent of one’s height or weight) ensuring that every participant has an equal opportunity to win based on the amount of time and energy devoted.
