Canine Good Citizen® Class and Certification
Canine Good Citizenship classes are a great way to teach responsible dog ownership, to help build the relationship between owner and dog, and help to improve the image of our beloved canine citizens. As explained by the American Kennel Club, "CGC is a certification program that is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs.” All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club. The CGC test items that your dog will need to perform:

  1. Accepting a Friendly Stranger
  2. Sitting Politely for Petting and Grooming
  3. Loose Leash Walking and Walking through a crowd
  4. Sitting/Down on command and coming when called
  5. Reaction to other dogs and Reaction to distraction
  6. Supervised Separation

A beginning level dog obedience course is recommended as pre-requisite. This will be a four-week class, consisting of three weeks working on above skills and concluding with testing on the fourth week. The $10 testing fee will be paid directly to the Cheryl Barton on December 12.

Introduction to Rally Obedience
Rally is a new sport that has caught on with popularity among the dog world. Rally offers both the dogs and handlers a fun energizing experience with an introduction to the world of obedience. Rally was designed with the traditional pet owner in mind, but it can still be very challenging for those who enjoy higher levels of competition. A rally course includes 10 to 20 stations, depending on the level. Scoring is not nearly as rigorous as traditional obedience as you can encourage and talk to your dog throughout the course. The main objective of rally is to produce dogs that have been trained to behave in the home, in public places, and in the presence of other dogs. A beginning level dog obedience course is recommended as pre-requisite.
