Beginning Dog Obedience Level II

This class is for dogs that have completed a basic beginning level training class. The handler understands the commands and has fairly good control over the dog, with the dog walking by the handler’s side. The skills learned in basic obedience will be used and handlers and dogs will be challenged to further their skills. Participants will work towards teaching the dog off leash work. This will vary depending on the dog/handler team and their skill level.

Therapy Dog Certification Course

This class prepares and trains dogs for therapy dog certification under the Therapy Dog International Organization. Handlers will train dogs for the 13 exercises that are used in the test (available at www.tdi-dog.org) while being introduced to a number of items commonly seen in a hospital/nursing facility. Dogs must be under good control and be able to heel by the side of the handler. A dog must be one year of age to be tested and must have an outstanding temperament. Therapy dogs must be outgoing and friendly to all people: men, women and children. Dogs must be tolerant and non-aggressive toward other dogs of either gender. It is strongly recommended that dogs have completed and passed an obedience training class. Certification testing may be done off site. The instructor will provide further testing information. There will be a separate testing fee of approximately $20.
