Welcome to the Owosso Public Schools Transportation Department!

The OPS transportation department’s number one concern is the safety of all who ride.

Please keep in mind the bus driver is responsible for transporting your student in a safe manner; however, bus riding is a privilege and should not be abused. All passengers must follow bus expectations posted on each bus for a safe and enjoyable ride.

****NEW THIS YEAR: All bus riders must register for transportation by Wednesday, July 23, 2025.****

Please note the times for the arrival of the school bus via the MY RIDE K-12 app starting August 15, 2025. Students must be at the designated stop five (5) minutes before bus arrival, for their safety. Bus routes are subject to change due to additions and subtractions of students during the school year.

Bus passes will be distributed to all registered students to scan when getting on and off the bus for the MY Ride K-12 app.

If you have any concerns or questions, please call the OPS Transportation Department at (989) 725-7665.

Sincerely,
Steve DeLong
Transportation Director

Frequently Asked Questions

School districts are NOT required by law to transport regular education children. Michigan Compiled Law (MCL) 380.1321 outlines the obligations of the school district IF its board of education elects to provide transportation.

No law specifies the maximum distance a student may walk to the bus stop.

Bus stops must be at least 200 feet apart because the law requires school bus lights to be activated 200 feet from a stop to alert other traffic.

Students should be visible and outside 5 to 10 minutes before the scheduled bus stop arrival time to allow for route variation.

Bus stop placement considers safety, visibility, and legal guidelines. According to MCL 257.1855, there must be 400 feet of clear visibility where the speed limit exceeds 35 mph, and 200 feet where it is lower. There is no law specifying maximum distance between stops.

Times vary early in the year as routes adjust to real-world conditions. From initial release until mid-to-late September, expect fluctuations. Once routes stabilize, delays are usually due to weather, construction, illness, etc. Use the Parent Bus Tracking System for real-time GPS info.

Parents or guardians are responsible for their child’s safety to and from the bus stop. The district sets stop locations per the law but does not escort students.

No law limits riding time for K–12 students. For preschoolers, licensing regulations limit continuous riding time to 60 minutes.
