Spring 2023 Community Education Programs
Puppy Dog Obedience (ages 12 weeks to 6 months)
Handlers will teach their puppy the beginning basic obedience commands such as come when called, sit and down on command, and follow a treat. Puppies will work on household manners such as not jumping, impulse control, and socialization skills. Handlers will learn the basic building block for teaching all obedience skills. Puppies must be current on vaccines, including Bordatella. On the first day of class, you must bring a copy of your puppy’s shot record to be held by the instructor, a leash (not retractable), soft small treats, and your puppy. Class will be held in the Owosso Middle School Commons area. Use the main Middle School entrance on the northwest side of the building. DOGS MUST BE PRE-REGISTERED.

Participants will work on basic household manners such as impulse control, not jumping, and socialization skills. Dogs must be current on vaccines, including Bordatella. On the first day of class, you must bring a copy of your puppy’s shot record to be held by the instructor, a leash (not retractable), soft small treats, and your dog. Class will be held in the Owosso Middle School Commons area. Use the main Middle School entrance on the northwest side of the building. Please indicate class name, dates, and times on the registration form. Two time slots will be offered. DOGS MUST BE PRE-REGISTERED.

Advanced Dog Obedience
In this class, we will review the skills learned in beginning obedience. Skills will advance to the next level with more distractions, more distance with the stationary commands as well as the recall exercise and finishes. Handlers and dogs need to have taken a beginning obedience class as a prerequisite. Socialization exercises will continue to be taught. Dogs must be current on vaccines, including Bordatella. On the first day of class, you must bring a copy of your puppy’s shot record to be held by the instructor, a leash (not retractable), soft small treats, and your dog. Class will be held in the Owosso Middle School Commons area. Use the main Middle School entrance on the northwest side of the building. DOGS MUST BE PRE-REGISTERED.

Competition Ready Rally Dog Obedience Class
Rally-O or Rally Obedience is a fast-growing dog sport that is perfect for those trying competition dog sports for the first time, or those who have fallen in love with training their dog and are just ready for the next class. Dogs and handlers will learn the obedience skills presented on each sign in Novice and/or Intermediate AKC Rally-O, how to maneuver a Rally-O course, how to survive your first competition including crate training, and much more. If your dog has already mastered the skills in advanced obedience (prerequisite) they are ready for Rally-O! This session is designed for beginning and intermediate handlers. Dogs must be current on vaccines, including Bordatella. On the first day of class, you must bring a copy of your dog’s shot record to be held by the instructor, a leash (not retractable), soft small treats, and your dog. Class will be held in the Owosso Middle School Commons area. Use the main Middle School entrance on the northwest side of the building. DOGS MUST BE PRE-REGISTERED.

Therapy Dog Training Class
Dogs must have taken advanced obedience training classes. Dogs will learn the skills to be prepared for evaluation for “Therapy Dog International” testing. Evaluation will be completed by a certified TDI evaluator. There is an additional fee for that evaluation, due at the time of evaluation which is scheduled for May 9 at 6 p.m. Testing requirements can be found on TherapyDogInternational.com. Lap swimming is open to all community members and takes place in the Owosso High School pool.

The cost is $2 per visit and is paid at the pool. Pre-registration is not required. If school is closed due to weather or for a holiday, lap swim will not be held.
Open Swim
Open swim is open to all community members and takes place in the Owosso High School pool.
Saturdays
10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Registration Forms
Registration forms must be
received a minimum of five days prior to the start of the class unless
stated otherwise. A link to the registration form is below.
Enrollment Information
Registrations are not confirmed. You will be contacted ONLY in the event of a time change, date change or class cancellation.
School Closings
In
the event that school is closed due to inclement weather, Community
Education programs will be canceled. Programs will be rescheduled as
time permits. Local radio and television stations will feature school
closings and they will be posted on the district
website and Facebook page.
Class Cancellations
Cancellations
are sometimes necessary. Programs depend upon paid registrations.
Offerings may be canceled due to low enrollment. If cancellations are
made, registrants will be notified and a full refund will be issued. Due
to many late registrations we do not cancel a class until the evening
prior to the start of the class. Please provide all phone numbers
necessary to reach you in the event of a cancellation. To avoid
cancellations, bring a friend or family member and register early.
Refund Policy
A full refund will be made if:
Community Education cancels the class
Class fills before your registration is received
NO REFUNDS if you cancel on the day the class begins.
NO REFUNDS will be made after the class has started, regardless of attendance.
